NERKUNDRAM VILLAGE, CHENGALPATTU, TAMILNADU

Nerkundram village is located near Salavakkam in the Chengalpattu district, surrounded by Edumichi and Chinnamalai forests. It adjoins Edumichi Lake, the Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram belt's third-largest water body. During summer and drought years, there is a lack of water for farming activities. Water restoration would increase farmer income and build trust towards converting them to non-pesticide farming. Approx. The population of this village is 600+.

Nerkundram in Tamil means Heaps of Paddy. This village has been into traditional farming and
everyone’s livelihood is dependent completely on farming.

NRF has completed the detailed water and geological asset mapping and recommendations to
significantly increase the water availability are being implemented in phases. This will helpimprove the groundwater situation of the whole village and help them do an extra crop/season
of farming
